New photo series coming up from my disastrous shooting with Saya

01

Disastrous shooting? What happened? Well, being in the middle of my
shooting my Profoto Acute flash generator broke down. First the flash
recycling time went to about 30 seconds. Then it was totally over. We
gave it a break, waited one hour but cooling down didn't help.

Unfortunately with available light (at night) in a hotel room my Phase
One camera doesn't work. High ISO on a Phase One is really bad. Going up
to ISO400 is ok. The additional options the camera has (reducing
resolution by 1/4) are also ok, but still all not enough. The lenses are
high-end, kick-ass and I love them but the largest aperture is at f2.8.
Not enough if available light is almost zero.

So, I had to switch to my backup: A tiny, teeny Canon EOS 550D with an
excellent 50mm lens (going up to f1.2) at ISO800. Conclusion:
Technically speaken, this shooting was horrible.

But this is just a little behind the scenes talk. Nobody really needed
to know as the photos themselves look stunning, the model was superb and
the results are adorable.

I will publish the photos next Monday on my website. Here is a first
glimpse for you.

Amulette Lingerie: Such beautiful pieces

I just stumbled upon beautiful lingerie by Amulette:

I should really do something with underwear again...

Mariana Garcia: A Rock n Roll photo portfolio (or what do you call this style?)

Maria

Mariana Garcia – there is Rock n Roll in her photographs. Or how would
you describe this style? Skateboarding? Punk? Backyard? Rebel?

Really a great inspiration. I need to spice up my photos with this kind
of medicine a little...

Jorge Aragon: Mediawork Fashion Files

Col

You know what is really annoying about the portfolio of Jorge Aragon?
It's sooooo long and contains soooo many great photographs. It feels
like drinking too much of a good wine...

Don't say I didn't warn you...

What's up with photo contests?

Maybe you get invitations to participate in photo contests all the time
as well. It's annoying. Especially when you are asked to pay an entry
fee. Somehow this just doesn't feel right for me. Whether it's a book
with the famous and best photographers or some competition, why should I
pay to participate?

The organizers profit from the fact that so many photographers like to
see their work in print or a gallery. The need is so high that many
photographers are not only willing to give their work away for free, but
even pay for it being printed...

Strange development, isn't it?

I collected the links of the last 8 contests I was invited to
participate. But then I decided not to paste the links as I don't want
to advertise for such contests. If there is a serious interest in
finding great photographs and exhibiting them, then this must work out
without payment by the photographer.

Buffalo Shoes: Making of Spring Campaign 2011

Ok, this is pure advertisement but if you like photography it's always
nice to have a little behind the scenes to watch:

Why is almost every pair "peeptoes" these days?

Wonderful Concept: "Back to the Future" photo series by Irina Werning

Bacjk

The best concepts are the ones that are simple. Here is a great example:
Photographer Irina Werning remade old photographs with the original
characters in the original location, just 20, 30 or 40 years later.
There are amazing results and it's a big laugh. Hilarious!

Stunning Portfolio: Alex Macpherson via viewbook

Stu

Here is another stunning portfolio by Alex Macpherson with great beauty
and fashion photos. I really like the viewbook integration. It's a nice
website:

Stereo Photography: Opinions and Tools?

Two years ago I shot a few stereo photographs but shifting them together
into one photo that you can watch in a 3D fashion using red and blue
glasses didn't really work out. So I bought another device that you can
stick on a tripod. But somehow it is lame and I never really felt like
using it.

Do you know any good examples for 3D or stereo photography? It was all
over-rated last year and is just for geeks, right?
